Police in Mchinji have today arrested eleven men on suspicion that they took hand in the killing of two men who were suspected to have killed their relative, Amon Lyson, aged 53, and robbed of his motorcycle at Kabuthu Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabvwere in Mchinji.
The arrests have effected after police launched a manhunt to bring to book all suspects who took part in assaulting to death two men, Rodwel Chikukwa aged 58 and his nephew Chikayiko Joseph aged 38 on 22 May 2025.
Mchinji Police Station Public Relations Officer Limbani Mpinganjira said family members and villagers alleged that Chikukwa and Joseph (the deceased) ambushed their deceased relative, Amon Lyson, at Kabuthu as he was riding back to his home, Chalapuka Village from Namitete.
On that particular day, after the death of Amon Lyson, the family members and villagers rallied against the two where they were assaulted heavily and some arrested suspects were seen in a video clip that has been circulating social media.
Police has managed to arrest Dickson Yohane aged 43, Yohane Kandiyano aged 42, Hamilton Lyson aged 41, Simukanako Konikisi aged 38, Chisomo Fyson aged 33, Precious Josiya aged 27, Piason Kosimasi aged 23, Daliken Paul aged 23, Levison Joseph aged 22, Jimmy Chimphangu aged 21 and Kelvin Chimphangu aged 18.
Meanwhile the suspects are in police custody, expected to appear before the court soon to answer the charge of Murder as police continues with investigations to arrest other suspects connected to the case.
Therefore, police appeals people to refrain from taking the laws into their own hands because mob justice sabotages justice, police investigations, and its a violation of suspects’ right to life and right to a fair trial.
