The Government of Malawi through the Minister of Foreign Affairs has assured citizens that Malawians living in Israel are safe, despite the ongoing missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.
Ministry’s spokesperson Charles Nkhalamba said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and that strong security measures are in place to protect Malawians in the country.
This statement comes as tensions continue to escalate between the two nations. While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, reports indicate that military facilities, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure have been damaged in both countries since the conflict intensified last week.
Adding to what Nkhalamba said, some Malawians living in Israel, including Brito John Mota and Shabulu Affack, have confirmed that they feel secure. They explained that all houses have access to bomb shelters, and more have been placed in key locations across the country.
They also receive alerts when missiles are incoming, giving them enough time to take shelter.
Meanwhile though the war has disrupted their daily activities, both Mota and Affack have said there is no need for the government to arrange their return to Malawi, as they are safe and prefer to stay in Israel for now.
