A 14-year-old boy identified as Francis Banda tragically took his own life by hanging at his parents’ home in Mawawa Village, located in the Mwase area of Kasungu District.
According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Miracle Hauli, the incident occurred after the boy was questioned by his mother about K18,000, which he had been entrusted to deposit into a local village savings bank known as Care, where she is a member.
The mother, who operates a food stall in Kasungu town, had been sending Francis to make regular deposits on her behalf. However, after visiting the bank herself, she discovered that the money had not been deposited for the past six days. When she confronted her son about the missing funds, he reportedly refused to return the money.
Later that day, she left him at home while she went to run errands. Upon her return, she found him hanging from the ceiling. Police were immediately notified, and the boy’s body was taken to Kasungu General Hospital Mortuary for further examination.
Police are continuing their investigations.
