Woman driven by jealousy throws acid on her 21-year-old friend (video)

A 21-year-old woman named Shraddha Das sustained severe burn injuries after an acid attack by her former friend in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on the night of June 29, 2025.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in Awadhpuri Colony under the Gaurighat police station. According to authorities, 22-year-old Ishita Sahu called Shraddha outside her home and, after a brief exchange, allegedly threw acid on her before fleeing the scene.
Shraddha was rushed to a private hospital with 50% burn injuries and is currently in stable condition.
Police believe jealousy was the motive behind the attack, as the two women, once close friends, had not been in contact for months.
Investigators say Shraddha had blocked Ishita’s number two months prior, cutting off communication. Ishita has been arrested and is being interrogated, while police search for her absconding parents.
Shraddha’s mother described the motive as rooted in envy, claiming Ishita was resentful of her daughter’s stability and ambition. The case has sparked renewed concerns over acid attacks and interpersonal violence.
