Police arrest 3 over motor cycle theft, recover 4 motorcycles in Nkhata Bay

Police in Nkhata Bay have arrested three suspects in connection to theft of motor cycles and recovered four motorcycles in the process.

The arrests occurred between July 1, and 5, 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Standwell Banda, born on 10/01/2003 from Chiwomba Village, traditional authority Mankhambira, Matias Yohane Phiri born on 02/01/2000 from Fwayafwaya village traditional authority Timbiri, both from Nkhata Bay district and Lidia Banda born 10/08/1994 of Mvula Village, traditional authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota.

Nkhata Bay police has been receiving reports from different complainants that their motorcycles were stolen by some unknown suspects.

Through intelligence collection and information sharing, Police detectives led by Inspector Emmanuel Kafamveka of Nkhata Bay Police in conjunction with detectives from Mzuzu and Nkhamenya Police formations, instituted intensive investigations which resulted in the arrest of the three suspects and recovery of the four motorcycles.

One motorcycle was recovered at Nkhamenya in Kasungu, two in Mzuzu City and one at Chombe area in Nkhata Bay district where it was dumped.

The suspects confessed to have commitment the offences and have been charged with Theft of Motorcycle and Receiving Stolen Property respectively.

Currently, the suspects are waiting to appear before court when paperwork is completed to answer the charges.
