A 24-year-old man, Fatsani Amosi, has died after being assaulted by a mob in Mbulawo Village, under Traditional Authority Chikho in Ntchisi District, on suspicion of theft.
Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, Salomy Zgambo, said that last week villagers discovered that someone had been stealing groundnuts and maize from their fields, and suspicion fell on Amosi, who was allegedly known for theft.
According to Zgambo, villagers later found Amosi hiding in
an abandoned house with a 50kg bag of groundnuts and 20kg of maize, suspected to have been stolen. They then assaulted him, resulting in severe head injuries that led to his death.
Meanwhile, police in the district have launched investigations and are working to arrest those involved in the mob attack.
