Lilongwe City Mayor Alex Peter Banda says he has accepted an apology from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) over a protocol breach during the NBS Charity Shield medal presentation held on Saturday at Bingu National Stadium.

In a statement, Banda said he acknowledges FAM’s admission of a “protocol oversight at the operational level” and its commitment to implementing corrective measures.

However, the mayor said the matter will not be closed until the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture receives a full report it demanded within 48 hours, clearly identifying those responsible.

“I will not accept any sanitised or evasive account,” Banda said.

He also disclosed that he has invited FAM leadership to a meeting at Lilongwe City Council to review the report and strengthen working relations.

Banda further praised Isaac Jomo Osman for defending the dignity of mayoral offices.

Meanwhile, he said legal action remains an option but will only be pursued if there is evidence of deliberate malice.
