Police in Mulanje District have linked four suspects earlier arrested for illegal possession of a firearm to a violent robbery targeting an Airtel Money agent.

Police spokesperson Innocent Moses says the suspects Benson Tsegula, Precious Tsegula, Samuel Maonga, and Isaac Bolowa allegedly broke into a house in Ngwendema Village under Traditional Authority Sunganinzeru, where they assaulted a female agent and forced her to hand over money.

Moses added that the suspects are also believed to have accidentally injured themselves with the firearm outside the victim’s house before being apprehended by members of the public in Murofinyo Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka.

The suspects were earlier found in possession of a Jericho 941FS pistol and ammunition.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
