Man Arrested in Mzuzu for Destroying Wife’s House Over Jealousy

Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 38-year-old man from Kamtambo Village in the Timbiri Chiefdom in Nkhata Bay District on suspicion of destroying his wife’s house in the Kaviwale area out of jealousy.
Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sergeant Edson Chipeni, identified the suspect as Alfred Nyirenda, who is married to Beauty Manda, currently based in South Africa.
Chipeni said that while in South Africa, Manda had been sending money to her mother, who was using the funds to construct the house.
On April 19, 2026, Manda received a call from the builder informing her that the suspect had destroyed the house, which was valued at 4 million kwacha.
Following the report, police launched an investigation and arrested Nyirenda. He has since admitted to committing the offence, saying he suspected his wife of having an affair with another man in South Africa.
