Police in Ekwendeni have arrested a 33-year-old man, Calvin Mwake, on suspicion of burglary and theft following a reported break-in at a local residence.

According to Edson Chipeni, Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu under the Malawi Police Service, the incident took place on Wednesday at Ekwendeni Trading Centre. A local farmer, Daniel Chimombo, reported that unknown individuals had broken into his home and stolen various household items.

The stolen property included mattresses, decoders, kitchen utensils, clothing, bedding, and curtains, significantly affecting the victim’s household.

Following investigations, police tracked down Mwake and arrested him. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has since admitted to committing the offence. All the stolen items were successfully recovered from his residence.

Police say Mwake is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of burglary and theft.
