A 31-year-old man has been arrested after gunfire erupted inside a hotel hosting the prestigious White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., sparking panic among guests.

The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, was detained by security agents inside the Washington Hilton on Saturday night.

According to law enforcement sources, Allen allegedly told authorities he intended to target officials in the administration of Donald Trump. Investigators say early findings suggest the attack may have been aimed at high-ranking government figures, possibly including the president himself.

Authorities report that the suspect was heavily armed, carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. Police say he attempted to breach security but “didn’t get very far” before being subdued. Reports indicate that between five and eight shots were fired during the incident, though no injuries have been confirmed.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said the motive is still under investigation but described the situation as a serious security breach. Officials are also examining claims that the suspect may have assembled the weapon inside the hotel.

Washington’s interim police chief Jeffery Carroll confirmed that Allen acted alone and was taken to hospital for evaluation following his arrest.

Further investigations have revealed that the suspect may have travelled across the country by train before arriving in the capital. Authorities are also reviewing a document believed to outline his intentions, though its authenticity has not yet been independently verified.

Allen is expected to face federal charges, including use of a firearm during a violent crime and assault on a federal officer. Prosecutors say he will appear in court as investigations continue.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is one of the most high-profile political and media events in the United States, making the incident a major security concern.
