Man Arrested in Dowa for Possession of Cannabis

Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested a 42-year-old man, Jumbe George, for allegedly being found in possession of cannabis without a licence.
Mponela Police Publicist, Macpatson Msadala, confirmed that the arrest took place on April 25, 2026, at Chimkolo Village under Senior Chief Chakhaza in the district.
According to Msadala, officers from Bowe Police Unit were conducting routine patrols around Chimkoka Trading Centre when they received a tip-off that the suspect was keeping cannabis at his residence. Acting on the information, the officers followed up and reportedly found George in possession of the substance.
He was immediately arrested, and approximately 200 kilograms of cannabis were seized during the operation.
George, who hails from Chimkolo Village in Traditional Authority Chakhaza, remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to illegal possession of cannabis.
Police have since reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activities and have urged the public to continue providing information that can assist in maintaining law and order.
