Police in Bangwe, Blantyre rescued two men from an angry mob early on May 4, 2026, after they were beaten over suspected housebreaking at Mwamadi Village, T/A Machinjiri.

The suspects, Francis July and Stesha Kalisinje, both 19, were caught and tied up by residents.

They were allegedly fleeing after a community search for stolen household items.

Reports say the homeowner had left his house on May 3, 2026, to guard a nearby stack of firewood overnight. When he returned at midnight, he found the house had been broken into.

Community members assaulted the two until Community Policing Forum chairperson Jimmy Charles called the police.

Officers led by Officer In-Charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joel Makiyi, responded quickly and rescued the suspects with help from forum members.

Makiyi condemned mob justice and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

Both July and Kalisinje are from Mwamadi village, T/A Machinjiri, Blantyre.

They are now in custody while investigations continue before their court appearance.#poweronlinenews
