Police in Blantyre have arrested three individuals suspected of vandalizing power infrastructure belonging to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).

According to Blantyre Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Doris Mwitha, the suspects, identified as Felix Patrick, Keston Tambala, and Patrick Mwanyula, were apprehended in connection with the theft of aluminium wire from ESCOM power lines in Nancholi.

Mwitha explained that the trio allegedly melted down the stolen aluminium wire to manufacture cooking pots, which they intended to sell.

Police have since issued a strong warning to the public against vandalizing ESCOM equipment, emphasizing that such acts disrupt electricity supply and pose significant safety risks to communities.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
