The Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organisations (MANEPO) has condemned the killing of three elderly people in Mzimba District following accusations of witchcraft.

The victims, Paul Mahobe (78), Charles Kamanga (78) and Styness Shaba (71), reportedly died after being subjected to a “trial by ordeal” in Mchelera Community on April 30, 2026.

In a statement signed by Executive Director Andrew Kavala, MANEPO described the incident as a violation of human rights and called for thorough investigations and justice for those responsible.

The organisation also expressed concern over continued attacks on older persons accused of witchcraft.
