At least 1,347 Malawians have returned home from South Africa through Mwanza and Dedza border posts within 11 days, immigration authorities have confirmed.
Immigration spokesperson at Mwanza Border, Sophie Chibenthu, said 777 Malawians entered the country through the border between 1 May and 11 May.
At Dedza Border, spokesperson William Kalanje said 570 Malawians also returned from South Africa during the same period.
Authorities say the increase in returnees is unusual compared to previous months.
Meanwhile, Mwanza Border is receiving seven buses every week carrying about 490 Malawians deported from South Africa.
