The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mangochi has sentenced 26-year-old Aisha Mary Wilson to four years in prison for child abduction.

According to police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi, Wilson abducted her partner’s five-month-old baby during a land dispute.

Wilson denied the charge in court, leading the prosecution to call five witnesses who presented strong evidence against her.

During mitigation, she apologized to the court and asked for leniency. The state asked for a tougher sentence, saying Wilson was already on bail for a similar offence allegedly committed earlier this year in Mfumu Makanjira.

Senior Resident Magistrate Muhammad Chande said the sentence should serve as a warning to others against committing similar crimes.
