Balaka Man Jailed 10 Years for Defiling 9-Year-Old Girl

A 21-year-old man, Lloyd Peter, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 9-year-old girl in Balaka District.
According to a statement from Bakaka Police Station, the offence occurred on February 11, 2026, at Khoswe Village under Traditional Authority Nsamala.
Police say the victim had been sent by her mother to a nearby shop to bu while accompanied by her brother.
“On their way back, they met the accused who dragged the little girl into a maize garden and had sexual intercourse with her,” reads part of the statement.
After the incident, the two children reportedly cried for help and were assisted by two women who were passing by. The girl was later taken to her mother, who reported the matter to police.
Appearing before court, Lloyd Peter denied the charge, but after hearing testimony from state witnesses, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
Peter comes from Khoswe Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District.
