Police in Mzuzu have arrested 42-year-old Kelvin Makina, a pharmacist at Mzuzu Central Hospital, for allegedly stealing assorted drugs from the hospital.

Northern Region Police publicist, Cecilia Mfune, said the suspect allegedly committed the offence on Monday, at around 15:00 hours and went at large before getting arrested on May 20, 2026.

“Based on the interviews, Makina was spotted behaving suspiciously by a senior pharmacist at the hospital leading to immediate engagement of the ICT officer to review CCTV footage, which showed him moving a trolley full of assorted medical drugs,” Mfune said.

She added that the Health Service Administrator at the hospital later inspected the records office and discovered assorted drugs, which the records officer failed to explain how they had ended up there, prompting the administrator to report the matter to the police.
