A 21 year old woman, Magret Victor of Saidi Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala, Balaka, has been arrested for allegedly poisoning and strangling her two year old biological son, Fahad Frank, following a dispute with her sister over the upbringing of the child.
According to Gladson M’bumpha Balaka Police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly committed the offence on May 18, 2026 after becoming angered by remarks from her sister, Pilirani Victor who had been caring for and breastfeeding the child since birth due to the suspect’s inability to produce breast milk.
Police say relatives became suspicious after noticing the child looking weak and foaming at the mouth while being carried by the suspect and they rushed the boy to Balaka District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A full postmortem was conducted yesterday, 20 May 2026 at Chiradzulu District Hospital and it revealed that the child had been poisoned with pesticide chemicals before being strangled.
Meanwhile, Police say samples collected from the body will be sent for further forensic analysis to establish the exact chemical used.
Magret Victor is expected to appear before court soon upon finalization of the paperwork.
