Six members of a self-acclaimed group known as “80 Niggas” are in police custody in Chiradzulu for allegedly committing a series of robbery and assault offences around Chitembele, Thumbwe and Nsoni markets.

Police spokesperson Hubert Mwangoka has identified the suspects as Mphatso Chithenga, 24, who is alleged to be the gang leader, Godfrey Losa, 22, Fedson Makonyola, 21, Yamikani Sungani, 21, Clement Nsapato, 21 and Francis Nandolo, 20.

Mwangoka said the suspects have for a long time been terrorising vendors and community members, but victims were allegedly afraid to report them due to fear of reprisals.

He said the suspects were reported by Isaac Lombola, a member of community policing, after they allegedly assaulted him using panga knives and sticks before robbing him of a mobile phone valued at K350,000 and cash amounting to K80,000.
