Police in Zomba have arrested two men, Gift Chimwaza, 24, and Douglas Makwesa, 26, for allegedly stealing two cows valued at K4 million.

Zomba Police spokesperson Andrew Mwale said the theft occurred during the night of June 9 and 10, 2026.

According to Mwale, the owner of the cattle received a tip-off on June 11 that the animals were being kept in a kraal at Mayaka’s in Zomba. Accompanied by community policing members, the owner rushed to the location and identified the cattle as his.

“We moved in and arrested the suspects. However, one of their accomplices, identified as Felix Yonus, managed to escape and is currently on the run,” said Mwale.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of cattle theft contrary to Section 281 of the Penal Code.

Gift Chimwaza hails from Nachuma Village, while Douglas Makwesa comes from Simeon Village under Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba District.
