Police in Chikwawa have arrested nine Ethiopian nationals for allegedly entering Malawi without valid travel documents.

Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba also confirmed the arrest of two Malawians, Luciano Gomez and Wilson John, who are suspected of being involved in the alleged illegal entry and human trafficking arrangement.

According to Matemba, the suspects were travelling in a Honda Freed when they were intercepted at a checkpoint at Kamuzu Bridge in Chikwawa after they allegedly failed to produce valid travel documents.

“We have already informed the Immigration authorities about the matter. The suspects will be taken to court to answer charges of entering the country illegally and human trafficking,” Matemba said.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
