Two Men Arrested in Machinga for Possession of Firearms Without Licence

Police in Machinga have arrested two men for allegedly being found in possession of firearms without a licence.

The suspects have been identified as 33-year-old Hadji Osman and 24-year-old Amon Likambale, both from the area of Senior Chief Nkula in Machinga District.

Machinga Police spokesperson Western Kansire said Osman, who recently returned from South Africa, allegedly used the firearm to threaten people while drinking kachasu at a local market.

Likambale, who is also alleged to have recently returned from South Africa, reportedly bought a firearm from another individual and allegedly used it to threaten people while smoking cannabis.

Following police investigations, Likambale reportedly disclosed that he had hidden the firearm in Achiutsi Village in Zomba.

The two suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges related to the possession of firearms without a licence.
