Zambian police have formally charged and arrested 23-year-old social media influencer Gezile Smith Mwale over allegations of producing and circulating adult videos online.
According to Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, Gezile has been charged with Production of Obscene Matters or Things, contrary to Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Chilabi said it is alleged that between July 22 and 27, 2026, Gezile, acting together with other individuals, participated in the production of videos depicting people engaged in obscene acts that went viral on internet.
Police further allege that the suspect circulated the videos on various social media platforms.
The matter was reported to the Zambia Police Service Anti-Cyber Crime Unit on July 27, 2026, prompting investigations conducted jointly with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency.
According to Chilabi, preliminary investigations led to Mwale’s identification and arrest, while efforts to trace and apprehend other suspects believed to have been involved are ongoing.
Mwale remains in police custody and is expected to appear before court.
Police have since reminded members of the public that the production, possession, publication and circulation of obscene material are offences under Zambian law.
