A 36- year – old man in Rumphi has died after he drowned in Lunyina River.

Rumphi police station public relations officer Tupeliwe Kabwilo has identified the deceased as Active Chipaza Gondwe.

According to Kabwilo, the deceased lost balance as he was crossing wooden bridge and fell into the flooded river and swept away.

“Police received a report about the incident and immediately searching commenced together with community members,” said the PRO.

Later, the body was found trapped into mud along side river bank during evening hours of April 2nd, 2019.

Medical officers from Bolero Health Centre confirmed that death was due to suffocation after postmorteming the body.

The deceased hailed from Chipitika Village, under Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.
