UTM fined MK600, 000 for late submission in presidential polls case

United Transformation Movement (UTM) party has been fined MK600, 000 in the ongoing Presidential polls case, Faceofmalawi can reveal.

The fine is for the party’s delay in submitting its final written submissions in the much anticipated Presidential case.

UTM as a first petitioner in the election case was given up to 4:30 PM Tuesday, December to file and serve its final written submissions.

But according to the court document, UTM failed to meet the deadline and has been ordered to pay a fine of K300, 000 kwacha to first respondent, President Peter Mutharika and another MK300, 000 to second respondent.

The court has since given UTM 7 days to make its final submission.

The case is scheduled to resume on December 19 for oral submission.
