In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly abducted by her Facebook friend and abused after she refused to meet the accused.
The victim has now been rescued by police from the Indo-Bangladesh border. The woman was abducted from her home in Pechartal in North Tripura.
As per a report in Times of India, police said the victim, a housewife, was rescued from a house in Kailashahar in Unokoti district along the India-Bangladesh border on June 11, the day she was abducted.
Police haven’t yet filed a case as the woman could not provide details about the accused. The cops said no arrests have been made and they are still investigating the case.
The woman had reportedly befriended a man called Abhijit Nath on Facebook. After chatting with him on the social media platform, the two shared their contact details.
The accused told the woman that he is a resident of Srirampur village in Unokoti district and shared false information about his professional and personal life.
The accused reached the woman’s locality in Pecharthal and asked her to meet him. As the victim refused to come out, the accused threatened to barge into her house.
Scared that her family members would come to know about their relationship, the woman came out to meet the accused.
She was later kidnapped by the man and his accomplices in a vehicle. Later, the woman was allegedly taken to a minority-dominated area where she was allegedly forced to convert.
However, the police managed to trace the woman on the basis of information provided by the local residents and rescued her.
