Govt Clears 87 Companies To Start Supplying Low-Priced Fertilizer To Subsistent Farmers

Government has cleared some 87 companies to start supplying low-priced fertilizer to subsistent farmers in the new Affordable Input Programme (AIP).

According to a communication from the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority, 49 of the selected suppliers are local companies while the remaining 38 are foreign owned.

Included on the list are companies with diverse socio-political backgrounds, substantiating the Tonse Alliance government’s stance of inclusivity in the selection process.

This year’s AIP has been allocated K160 billion that will be used to assist in supplying affordable fertilizer and seeds to 4.2 million subsistence farmers.
