Likoma Islands DHO Office Re-opens After 2 Months of Closure

Communities in Likoma Islands have re-opened the office of the District Health Officer (DHO) which they closed two months ago when they demanded the removal of DHO, Dr. Tizgowere Western Kumwenda for allegedly mismanaging Covid -19 funds.
Area Development Committee (ADC) Chairpersons Mathews Manyuka and Martin Mnkhwamba said their decision comes following government’s commitment to replace Nyirenda with Dr. Gracewell Matewe, who was Nkhatabay DHO.
Meanwhile, Chairperson for Likoma District Council, Ernest Gulu has held the ADC leadership for timely responding to their request to open the office for the new DHO to prepare for his new role.
