Nankhumwa Warns Chakwera Administration of Selective Justice In Fighting Corruption

Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has warned President Lazarus Chakwera and his Tonse Alliance administration against applying selective justice in the fight against corruption where he says only members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are targeted.

Nankhumwa said this during in his winding up speech today before Parliament concluded its seven week business.

While commending the government for efforts to fight corruption, Nankhumwa emphasized that there must be no sacred cows in fighting corruption if Malawians are to take President Chakwera’s anti-corruption drive seriously.

For example, Nankhumwa cited recent media reports indicating that under President Chakwera’s watch, the State House has been making questionable payments to Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, describing such reports as very disturbing revelations.

He then dared Chakwera to take remedial action against the officers involved in the corruption scandal rather than just paying lip service.

Meanwhile, Parliament has adjourned indefinitely after conducting business for seven weeks which saw the passing of the K2.2 trillion 2020-21 national budget among other businesses such as Bills, reports and questions to Ministers.
