Covid-19; Govt Establishing Field Hospitals

The Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 has said government is establishing filed hospitals in the four cities to ease the congestion currently being experienced in treatment units at central hospitals.

Chairperson for the Taskforce John Phuka revealed this yesterday during the daily covid-29 updates in Lilongwe.

According to Phuka, the field hospitals will provide adequate space which help to improve quality of care to patients.

Phuka added that Bingu National Stadium is one of the filed hospitals saying that it is expected to be opened in due course as all the preparations and logistics are at an advanced stage.

He therefore gave a few tips to the people who have surrounded the stadium to follow in order to keep themselves safe from being exposed to the virus.

“As the field hospital will be opened, I would like to communicate the following to the communities surrounding the Bingu Stadium that just as any other hospital, the operations at his hospital will ensure strict Infection Prevention and Control Practices to reduce the risk of disease transmission within the hospital as well as the public surrounding the facility,” Phuka said.

Phuka has therefore announced that Bingu National Stadium will be a restricted area to ensure that no further transmissions are being made from the stadium to the surrounding areas.

“Vending and loitering around the field hospital is strictly prohibited, sporting and recreational activities around the field hospital have been suspended and no visitors will be allowed inside the facility,” Phuka said.

He therefore urged people to follow the instructions given by the security agencies who are guarding the facility and health workers

On discriminating Covid-19 patients and health workers, Phuka said this should be avoided at all cost and that rumors and misinformation should be avoided.
