Atupele Wants Govt to Increase Covid-19 Vaccine Beneficiaries to 40%

President of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Atupele Muluzi has said the population of people to receive the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine needs to be increased.

Atupele wrote this on his official Facebook page while commending government on its decision to secure the vaccine.

“Whilst government needs to be commended for securing COVID-19 Vaccines for 20% of the population, the target is low,” Atupele said.

He further added that government should consider increasing the population rate to 40 percent with more adults into consideration.

“It needs to be increased to at least 40% of the population to cover adults, especially our senior citizens who are most at risk. Perhaps we will be able to achieve the so called herd immunity,” he said.

On Sunday, President Lazarus Chakwera announced that the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine is expected to come into the country by the end of the month of February.

Chakwera further added that the roll out of the vaccine will start in March with frontline health workers being the priority.

Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda yesterday justified the decision to have the vaccine in the country disregarding the myths that are going around the country.

Khumbize Chiponda said that the vaccine are efficient and user friendly.
