ALL SET FOR CDEDI DEMOS ON HIGH COST OF LIVING

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) said all is set for 25 April demonstrations against economic hardships the citizenry is facing in the country.

CDEDI Executive director Sylvester Namiwa has confirmed the development on Monday in Lilongwe during a media briefing the organization conducted.

According to Namiwa, Malawians are currently facing serious challenges in making ends due to among many others, the high cost of living which is as a result of high cost of essential commodities and services such as water, electricity, cooking oil, fuel and mobile phone charges.

Meanwhile the demonstrations are yet to take place in the cities of Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mulanje district.

Namiwa disclosed that CDEDI wrote the city councils on Monday, April 12, 2021 but it is only Mzuzu City Council that responded to their letter on the matter but have since rescheduled the dates for demonstrations in the city as most of the law enforces will be engaged at the Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima’s official visit to the region, a development the city authorities say would put on pressure security agency.

This however means the date for demonstrations will be announced in due course.
