Parliament Condemns Controversial Decision By Police To Redeploy Officers Involved In Bribery

Parliament has condemned a controversial decision by police authorities to redeploy eight officers implicated in acts of bribery.

Police authorities only redeployed the officers rather than firing them.

Late last week, the Service Administration Officer in the office of the Inspector General issued an internal memo confirming the redeployment of 6 traffic and 2 CID cops to the general duties department.

The move has taken various sections of society by surprise with many, including the Human Rights Defenders Coalition questioning the law enforcement agency’s commitment to ridding the service of corruption.

The critics insist that the implicated officers should face the full wrath of the law just like every other suspect of corruption.

Taking its turn on the matter, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee – PAC is revealing plans to engage the Inspector General to press for prosecution of the incriminated officers.

Chairperson Shadreck Namalomba insists that his committee will not rest until justice prevails on the matter.
