5 People Succumb To Covid-19

At least five people have died from Coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the statement from the Ministry of Health.

The deaths are from Blantyre, Zomba, Chiradzulo and Rumphi districts.

“Five new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours; two from Blantyre, and one each from Zomba, Chiradzulu, and Rumphi Districts,” read part of the statement.

In the last 24 hours the country also registered 80 new cases and 44 new recoveries.

Malawi is experiencing a rise in the new cases of the pandemic which has resulted the Minister of Health admitting that third wave might be here.

The Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 is therefore appealing to the general public to continue following and practicing the guidelines put in place as a way of containing the spread of the virus.

Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded 35,709 cases including 1,187 deaths (Case Fatality Rate is at 3.32%).

Of these cases, 2,408 are imported infections and 33,301 are locally transmitted.

Cumulatively, 33,075 cases have now recovered (recovery rate of 92.6%) and 232 were lost to follow-up.

This brings the total number of active cases to 1,215.
