Over K200 Million For Independence Celebrations

Government has put aside 224 million Malawi Kwacha for this year’s 6 July Independence Celebrations.

Chairperson for the organizing committee of the celebrations, Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also the Minister of Homeland Security has confirmed the development.

According to Chimwendo Banda, Independence celebrations will still go on despite that the country is experiencing second wave of the global pandemic, Coronavirus.

He added that government will ensure that all Coronavirus preventive measures are being followed while people are celebrating 58 years of independence.

The celebrations will take place in all the major cities of the country, in Lilongwe at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), Blantyre at COMESA Hall and in Mzuzu at Grand Palace.

Chimwendo Banda has added that there will a limitation on people to attend the celebrations in both cities due to Covid-19.

600 people will be allowed in Lilongwe, 500, in Blantyre and 400 in Mzuzu, he said.

On July 6, 1964, Malawi gained freedom of self ruling from her colonialist the great Britain since then celebrations are done annually.
