Shadreck Namalomba Responds To HRDC’s Resignation Calls

Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) newly appointed spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba has responded to resignation calls by the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HDRC) saying he will not resign.

HRDC released a press statement demanding Namalomba’s resignation as Public Accounts Committee of Parliament following his appointment as DPP’s publicist arguing it will compromise his integrity.

Responding to the calls, Namalomba said he will only resign as PAC chairperson if other high profile political figures holding two positions give up one as well.

Namalomba has therefore described the resignation calls only directing at him as unfair.

HRDC has said it is not pleased with Namalomba’s statement in his capacity as DPP’s publicist calling the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to stop harassing the former president Peter Mutharika who is also DPP’s leader.

Siding with Namalomba, good governance commentator Moses Mkandawire said it is unfair to victimize Namalomba.

According to Mkandawire, Namalomba was only discharging his duties as the party’s spokesperson and not as an individual.

HRDC is yet to comment on Namalomba’s response.
