Man Handed 9 Years Jail Term For Wounding Ex Wife

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Ntchisi has convicted and sentenced Damiyano Chiwaya, 29, to nine years in jail for wounding ex-wife on her left arm using a panga knife at Kanyerere village in the district.

The court through the state prosecutor, Sergeant Melody Sakwi, heard that during the night of September 28, 2021 Chiwaya ambushed his ex-wife who by then was looking for her child within the village for a bath.

In mitigation, Chiwaya who hails from the area of traditional authority Kalumo in the district, pleaded with the court to be lenient, saying he did it because he still loves the wife and wants her back

First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua then slapped Chiwaya with nine years imprisonment with hard labour contrary to section 238 of the Penal Code.
