Minister pledges a free corruption entity in water connection

The Minister of Water and Sanitation Honorable Abida Mia has assured Malawians that there will be no corruption in the implementation of the free water connection which has commenced on April 1,2022.

The assurance was made on Wednesday in Lilongwe during a press briefing under the banner Government Faces the Press alongside the Minister of Information and Digitalisation Honourable Gospel Kazako.

Mia said the Anti Corruption Bureau is working hand in hand with the Water boards and there is a system put in place to monitor whatever is happening during the implementation of the policy.

“The aim of the ministry in collaboration with the water boards is to provide portable water and to achieve this, we need to make sure that everyone goes through the system to benefit from the free water connection,” added Mia.

The Minister further said eligible applicants are only those for domestic purposes, maximum of 24 meters from the service line and the connections will be done on first come first serve basis among other methods put in place.

On his part, the Minister of Information and Digitalisation Honourable Gospel Kazako concurred with Mia stressing that all is already planned and in place and he further urged Malawians to see it with positive eyes for the success of the work and report to authorities whenever there are some people who illegally connected water in their places to minimize corruption cases in the country.
