Former President Peter Mutharika has claimed that President Chakwera recently travelled to Egypt with over 250 people which should have cost the nation a fortune when the country is failing to import fuel.
Mutharika made the claims during his address at PAGE house in Mangochi.
Turning to the fuel crisis in the country, Mutharika has expressed shock how the Tonse Alliance government is handing the fuel crisis in Malawi.
“People are spending nights on end in pump stations yet the president is driving past going to play golf,” said Mutharika.
“Why did these people get into government when they had no idea of how to run the country? It baffles me,” he says. “When I was president, I stopped travelling. I said I would only travel three times in a year. This president has traveled 34 times”.
Turning to the forthcoming Presidential polls, Mutharika has accused President Chakwera of planning to rig the 2025 general election by embarking on massive registration of children in Central and Northern region.
Effort to talk to government spokesperson Gospel Kazako proved futile.
