Heavy rains leave people homeless in Nkhata Bay

Some Families have been left homeless as their houses were destroyed last night due to heavy rainfall in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Timbiri in Nkhata-Bay District.

According to reports, areas of village headman Zinduwa around Kawalazi, stretching from Chisala to Lichenga areas have been mostly affected by the rain.

One of the affected people, Weston Hastings Banda confirmed that no one died in the disaster.

Nkhata-Bay district council said the Village and Area Civil Protection Committees is assessing the damage to regulate the extent of the disaster.

This year alone, Nkhata-Bay have faced several heavy rains and the first one happened in November where it destroyed Tukombo cholera treatment camp forcing Nkhata-Bay district health authority to temporarily close Tukombo Dispensary which was turned into the camp.

However, heavy rains have left a lot of people homeless in many areas across the country starting from November this year. For example Dowa, Thyolo, Salima Chitipa just to mention some.
