Police assures safety of an elderly woman accused of practicing witchcraft in Thyolo

Police in Luchenza, Thyolo have promised to keep safe an elderly woman who was accused of killing a man through witchcraft.

The station’s officer in-Charge, Florida Kunyado Dzimbiri confirmed this yesterday adding that the people in the district are at peace.

According to Dzimbiri, no one has been arrested in connection to the incident in which an angry mob from Ngamwani 2 and Sitima villages forced the elderly woman to bring back to life a body of a man.

Dzimbiri said the old woman was accused of killing the deceased through magic, before the body was laid to rest later at night.

Malawi Network of Older Persons Organization (MANEPO) executive director, Andrew Kavala, said a holistic approach on mindset change is needed especially among the youth.
