Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) has expressed discontent over Joyce Banda’s continue Maize handouts at political rallies, saying the tendency is shameful and abuse of consumer rights.
CAMA’s remarks comes at a time where Admarc is rationing the Maize due to short supply of the Maize stock in the selling points.
In his statement made available to the media signed by CAMA’s Executive Director, John Kapito , condemned Banda’s move to use Maize as a political campaign tool thereby subjecting poor Malawians to a lot of humiliation and disrespect.
“Consumer Association of Malawi wishes to reiterate its concern regarding the continued use of Maize handouts at political rallies. President Joyce Banda during her term as Chairperson of Admarc used the very same Maize for her campaign that left Admarc markets with no supply of maize.
Malawians know that the last five years before she came into power Malawi had huge stock of Maize and during the lean period the price were the lowest. why does Maize become scarce and an affordable when President Banda is at the helm of leadership ?”, said Capito
The human rights activist argued that Malawians want Maize availability in the markets at affordable price.
