The President of the Senate, Dr. Vincent Biruta, Sunday held talks with the Rwandan community in Malawi.

During the meeting, he highlighted the country’s development programs in the areas of health, poverty eradication strategies and gender equality among others.

“These programs are in line with the country’s vision of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) and the Vision 2020,” he said.

Biruta called upon the Rwandan Diaspora to be patriotic and always put their country at heart in whatever they do.

He disclosed that Rwandans wishing to return home would be facilitated while urging them to invest in their motherland. He also briefed them on the upcoming senatorial polls in September.

Top among the challenges underscored by the Rwandan community in the Southern African nation was the need for an embassy in Malawi.

Others were inadequate resources to travel back to Rwanda to first assess the situation before repatriating with their families.

Biruta is leading a Rwandan delegation to Lilongwe, the Malawian Capital, to attend the 13th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association/Africa Region (CPA/AR).

The forum that was formally opened by Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika yesterday, brings together delegates from 19 African states.
