Police in Dowa have arrested a Rwandan national, Emmanuel Ndagijimana, on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle. According to Dowa police publicist Alice Sitima, the 40-year-old suspect allegedly stole a Honda Freed, registration number DA10595, from Dzaleka Refugee Camp in March of the previous year.

Ndagijimana had hired the vehicle under the pretense of conducting business within the camp but failed to return it. After he switched off his mobile phone, police launched an investigation that led to the recovery of the vehicle in Mzuzu.

Sitima revealed that the suspect had already sold the vehicle and altered its registration number to BX2075 before being arrested.

The suspect will appear before court soon.
