A 42-year-old man, identified as Stevie Nyasulu, has died after being struck by lightning, while nine others have been injured and were treated as outpatients at Monkey Bay Community Hospital.

Monkey bay Police Spokesperson Alice Sichali said Nyasulu and nine other fishermen went fishing on Lake Malawi through Cape Maclear Beach.

“However, due to bad weather conditions, they decided to return to shore. As they were sailing back, lightning struck, killing Nyasulu on the spot and leaving the others unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, they managed to sail back and dock at Masasa Beach,” she says.

Nyasulu’s body was taken to Monkey Bay Community Hospital, where a postmortem confirmed that his death resulted from electrocution, leading to respiratory failure.
