Mulanje Police Launch Manhunt After Mentally Ill Man Killed and Burned

Police in Mulanje District have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects who brutally killed a 35-year-old man with a mental health condition, Luka Saluwa, before setting his body on fire.
According to Mulanje Police public relations officer Innocent Moses, Saluwa was accused by community members of being behind the murder of 43-year-old Rita Makulu, whose dismembered body was discovered inside Saluwa’s house.
Saluwa had a known history of mental illness and had previously received treatment at Zomba Mental Hospital.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths and have called on the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands while investigations are ongoing.
Saluwa was from Mabi Village, and the late Makulu hailed from Misomali Village — both located in the area of Senior Chief Chikumbu in Mulanje District.
