Zambian Police Officer Arrested for Assaulting Civilian at The Bar

A 44-year-old man, Ronald Sakala, has sustained a fractured leg after being assaulted by a police officer at a bar in Zimba District, Southern Province.

The incident occurred on 18th June 2025, around 16:30 hours at Sports Corner Bar in the Town Centre. The officer involved has been identified as Felix Masheke, who is stationed at Zimba Police Post. He has since been arrested in connection with the assault.

According to reports, Sakala arrived at the bar around 15:00 hours and sat separately from the officer, who was already there. Later, around 16:30 hours, after returning from a nearby grocery store, Sakala was allegedly pushed to the ground without provocation by Officer Masheke, resulting in a fractured left leg.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the incident and said the victim was immediately taken to Zimba Mission Hospital, where he is currently admitted and in stable condition.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, and the police officer will face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.
