Two children in Ntchisi, Natasha Ndeketeya (4 years old) and her cousin Favor Simeon (2 years old) have died after eating suspected poisoned food.

Police spokesperson for the district, Salomy Zgambo, said the incident occurred on Sunday night in Bingabvula Village when Natasha’s mother prepared a meal for the family.

After eating the food, Natasha began vomiting, but her family initially suspected malaria.

The following morning, she went to the field with her mother, where she continued vomiting and later fainted before being rushed to Ntchisi District Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.

Her mother, who also ate the food, started vomiting as well and is currently in a coma.

Zgambo added that Favor Simeon was taken to Khuwi Community Hospital after he began vomiting and died the following morning after being discharged home.

Hospital results confirmed that the children died from consuming poisoned food.
